International Science Editing draws upon the expertise of professional editors in a wide range of scientific disciplines. Please see below for details of the key team members. All are native English speakers, specialised in editing (and, in some cases, translating) scientific articles, conference papers, PhD theses, book chapters, and reports.

Elaine SeeryElaine Seery

Founder of International Science Editing, Elaine had a long and varied career in many different fields before becoming a full-time translator and copy-editor. She has lived in France since 2007, and is based at Toulouse.

Education: Elaine holds a Master's degree in Computing Science from Newcastle University and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Nottingham.

Career: Following her Master's degree she was employed by the Computing Science Department at Newcastle University before leaving to work as a freelance developer. In 2007 she moved to France, where she worked as a Team Leader for Orange France, developing backend web systems. In 2012, she launched International Science Editing.

Specialisations: Translating and editing in the fields of computing, social sciences, industrial safety and psychology.

International Science Editing was created in 2012 in response to the growing need for researchers to publish-or perish!

Dr Julia Slone-MurphyDr Julia Slone-Murphy

Founder of NeuroEdit Ltd., Dr Julia Slone-Murphy has more than 10 years' science editing experience, working with independent clients and internationally-recognised publishing services companies.

Education: Julia holds a PhD from University College London (UCL) for her research on a model of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). During her postdoctoral contract at the CNRS in Bordeaux, France, she investigated the role of the subthalamic nucleus in drug addiction.

Career: Previously a pharmacologist, Julia worked at Sanofi, modelling pharmacokinetic data using clinical trial simulation software, and at GlaxoSmithKline, studying forebrain neurochemistry in a model of schizophrenia. She also spent five years as a scientific consultant for the law firm Arnold & Porter.

Specialisations: Translation (French to English) and editing (English) in neuroscience and related fields, including pharmacology, molecular biology, immunology, oncology and medicine.

NeuroEdit Ltd. specialises in helping researchers publish their work in high-impact journals with an international readership.

Dr Alex BoonDr Alex Boon

Dr Alex Boon founded Soil Science Editing in 2015. He is a full-time copy-editor, operating from his home by the sea in Southwest England.

Education: Alex holds 1st class Bachelor's degree in Rural Environmental Sciences from the University of Reading. He completed his PhD, Peatland Habitats as Sources and Controls of Greenhouse Gases, in 2012.

Career: He began his postdoctoral career at the Reading University, first in the Department of Meteorology, where he studied urban greenhouse gas emissions for two years, then working as a research assistant and lecturing in soil science in the Agriculture Department.

Specialisations: Editing in the fields of soil physics, soil chemistry, climate change, land contamination and remediation, atmospheric sciences and air pollution.

Soil Science Editing provides editing and manuscript development services to scientists with English as a second language and conducts copy-editing of accepted articles for journal publishers.

Dr Gordon BaxterDr Gordon Baxter

Dr Gordon Baxter is an independent consultant in user experience and human factors, based in Fife, Scotland.

Education: Gordon holds a PhD in Human Factors from the University of Nottingham (2000), an MPhil in Cognitive Science from the University of Dundee, and a BSc in Computing Science from Imperial College London.

Career: He began his career as a software engineer working on user interface development for several large UK industrial companies. In 1994, he joined the University of Nottingham as a Research Associate. After getting his PhD he became a Research Fellow in Human Computer Interaction at the University of York, before moving to the University of St Andrews in 2007 to work in Software Systems Engineering.

Specialisations: Development of socio-technical systems-from analysis to evaluation. Writing and editing articles about socio-technical systems (mainly UX, human factors and resilience).

Gordon is a Chartered Engineer, and has published over 50 articles, including the book Foundations for Designing User-Centered Systems.
